Defence

military planes

While the main purpose of defence establishments worldwide and their contractors is to defend territories, they also recognise their responsibility to manage often large estates and improve the living and working environments for military personnel.

Mott MacDonald has been commissioned for many defence contracts globally, for airforce, army and navy, as well as for suppliers to the defence industry. Issues facing this sector often include conservation of large tracts of land, remediation of contaminated land and the construction of new barracks and associated infrastructure.

Our expertise in defence includes:

  • Phase I and II contaminated land ground investigations, comprising soil and groundwater assessments, management plans for the mitigation of risks and land remediation.
  • Building research establishment environmental assessments (BREEAM) for new building projects
  • Environmental impact assessments (EIAs) for new roads and installations
  • Feasibility studies, EIAs and traffic management plans on defence estates
  • Environmental management systems for defence contractors
