We undertook an EIA, air dispersion modelling and
stack height determination for an extension to the Ras Abu Fontas
power and desalination plant, Qatar
The successful implementation of air quality management
policies and practices is one of the most effective means of
protecting the environment, both in terms of community health and
ecosystem integrity.
Delivering effective policy to improve air quality requires not
only an in depth understanding of air pollution science but
practical experience of the measures required to realise the
benefits. These include land use and transportation planning,
industrial pollution control and community partnerships.
Our work covers every aspect of air quality management from
providing governments with technical advice on land use, transport,
waste and environmental policies to assessing air quality as part
of an environmental impact assessment or risk appraisal study for
developers, financial institutions and government agencies.
As more and more governments seek to persuade people onto public
transport, we are devising schemes such as congestion charging to
encourage a model shift from the private motor car as well as
designing public transport infrastructure including, for example,
multiple transport nodes, fast track links to airports, bus lanes
and light rail. In the industrial sector where the demands on
operators to control emissions are ever more stringent, we are not
only carrying out technical and engineering studies on industrial
pollution control, but also designing, implementing and auditing
environmental management systems for operational plants to comply
with legislation and requirements of financial institutions.
Our specialist skills include:
- Ambient air pollution monitoring
- Stack emissions monitoring
- Emission calculations and inventories
- Stack height determination
- Dispersion modelling, including point, linear and area
sources,
in isolation or in combination
- Source apportionment
- Air quality action plans and strategies
- Legislative and policy review
- Mesco-scale modelling.
Applications of our skills:
- Environmental impact assessment
- Environmental risk appraisal
- Industrial abatement technologies
- Land use planning
- Traffic management
- Policy development and interface.
Environmental impact assessments
Specific to air quality assessment and as part of environmental
impact assessment studies or environmental management systems, we
design and implement monitoring programmes to establish baseline
air quality. Using a wide range of dispersion modelling techniques
our experts assess the air quality impact of a specific project in
terms of human health, ecosystems and vegetation as well as
introducing abatement techniques as appropriate. To integrate air
quality management within existing policy frameworks we develop
emission inventories covering the transport, industrial, commercial
and domestic sectors.
